How I retired at 39 | Financial Independence/Retire Early

My journey to early retirement didn’t look like most people’s journey. I was traveling the world for about 6 months, before I realized that I didn’t want to go back to work, and decided to retire. But years of debt freedom and financial independence allowed me to retire early.

  1. You mimic my mind – I’m planning on retiring in South east Asia for which the fire number is $250,000 and I’ve crossed 10% of it. Hoping to achieve in next 8 years.

  2. I love hearing these stories! I have been following ORJ's channel for some time as well. After I paid off my student loan, the entire world open up, which was how I was able to quit my job and travel the world. This was two years ago!

  3. It seems you haven’t got kids. I have watched a few of your videos and you haven’t mentioned it. Having children makes a huge difference to your financial situation and being able to retire at 39. So it is much easier for you without children.

  4. Have you ever thought of visiting or living in Puerto Rico πŸŒ΄πŸ‡΅πŸ‡·??? We chose to move to PR because of tax breaks and low cost of living. In 2 years we'll be paying off our new house at ages 28 & 30!!!

  5. I think you should consider making a video about the β€œlady of leisure” statement/mindset. So many men (and maybe some women) would consider this β€œlazy”.. however, I personally don’t believe women were made to endure the physical & mental hurdles of the workforce. Our only struggle should be managing a family.. imo
Especially in the black community where women are expected to be a work mule. It’s refreshing to hear women who are advocating to make yourself & your mental health a priority. Rest in your feminine..but have a plan.

  6. This quote! β€œAs far as watching my money grow, I want to be as lazy as possible.” I love ORJ too but the house flipping sounded a bit too much for me as well. So glad to have two great examples of doing differently but achieving a similar goal.

  7. SMH. Goodness gracious! Why did I enjoy this video so much? I laughed. I had something to think about. I was motivated and impressed. It is so hard at times to find people who retired by their financial investments only or mostly, moved out of the U.S.A. or spend most of their time outside of it; especially melanated people. I watch and love the Our Rich Journey family also.

  8. I"ve just paid off all my debts, I still have student loans and last week had to buy a new car but I only took a loan out for 15K and paid put half the money in it. I'm going to try and pay that off in 2 years. I have a mortgage too. I'm going to save as much as I can, I have a 403B that I contribute to and my medical will be free when I retire. It's hard if you have kids though. It's easier if it's only you that you have to consider, you can save more..

  9. I am liking you already, great job with the accidental retirement.
I do have similar goal of retiring early (actually not so early as I am now 54), but am going to hang my gloves later this year..
I know for sure that I will be moving to Costa Rica, a place that I love, and always feel happy there, and costs a lot less.
I definitely will get out of Canada, it is not a healthy place for a black person. We don't feel we belong here, and people see us as a danger to their lives and belongings.
Hope to cross your path one day. Keep smiling…..
