The two headphone outputs, offering TRS and mini-jack sockets in parallel, have completely separate driver stages to perfectly match low and high impedance headphones, guaranteeing pristine sonic results no matter what type of headphone is used.

The 3.5 mm TRS phones output power rises to 90 mW. THD of both phones outputs improved by up to 10 dB. and uses same output op-amps as ADI-2 Pro now. Finally the output impedance of 3.5 mm TRS was lowered from 2 Ohms to 0.1 Ohms.

Full range capture – Improved Mic & Line Inputs

For the main I/O RME have designed a XLR socket, which integrates seamlessly into the housing and saves space.Two digitally controlled preamps provide individually switchable 48V phantom power. These circuits feature a gain range of 76 dB, adjustable in steps of 1 dB, including a relay-driven PAD, resulting in exceptional EIN (Equivalent Input Noise) performance as well as line overload protection, and enough gain for even the lowest level microphones.

Babyface Pro’s incredibly efficient design almost never requires an external power supply – it’s perfectly stable on USB 3 bus power, and also most USB 2 ports, with no degradation in any technical specification. This makes it perfect for mobile recording, even with a pair of your favourite condenser microphones.

The comprehensive feature set continues with an optical TOSLINK I/O; use as either an ADAT port with SMUX support or SPDIF for sessions up to 192 kHz. In combination with an external ADAT converter, the Babyface Pro fully supports 12 analog inputs as well as 12 outputs, making it ideal for both live and studio multi-track applications. You can plug any instrument, line or high impedance, into Babyface Pro’s jack inputs 3 & 4. Record your guitar on the go, with no additional hardware required. MIDI I/O via an included breakout cable completes the package.

Mixing & Routing with TotalMix FX & TotalMix Remote

Like all the latest RME interfaces, the Babyface Pro FS also includes the powerful digital real-time mixer TotalMix FX. It allows fully independent routing and mixing of input and playback channels to all physical outputs. Independent stereo submixes plus a comprehensive Control Room section offer unrivalled monitoring capabilities and unsurpassed routing flexibility.

Babyface Pro FS ships with RME’s TotalMix FX, available for Windows and Mac OS X. An iOS version is available as well. This amazingly versatile software allows you to use Babyface Pro in any situation. For example mixing your guitar and vocals to headphones has never been easier. The FPGA-based DSP mixer adds a flexible, 3-band parametric equalizer to all inputs and outputs. The Babyface Pro FS also provides a separate FX send bus for all inputs and software playback channels, feeding two effect engines: Reverb and Echo. Every output channel includes a FX return control for the FX output signal (Effects are not available for operation in stand-alone and iOS mode).

Additionally RME’s latest software, TotalMix Remote, enhances the power of the Babyface Pro FS by enabling remote control via iOS, PC or Mac. With a straightforward set up process — simply enter the IP address of the computer you would like to control with TotalMix Remote and get going — users can quickly adjust any aspect of TotalMix FX on a host system while walking around the studio with their tablet, or from a control room located elsewhere in the facility.

Users of the original Babyface Pro will recognize the look of this portable interface, with its dedicated XLR sockets and parallel phone jacks (1/4″, 3.5mm, and TRS connections). Familiar users will be delighted at the new improvements offered in the Babyface Pro FS. RME has implemented a +19/+4 dBu switch on the bottom to reduce the output level, allowing you to optimize the signal-to-noise ratio of the preamps on a case by case basis. The clocking, already high-quality, has been improved to provide ultralow jitter and jitter immunity. The 3.5mm headphone output power has risen from 70 to 90mW, and both headphone outputs sport improved THD up to 10 dB. Latency now has a typical delay of 5 samples AD and 7 samples DA, one-fifth of previous generations. These are just some of the improvements. The interface ships with the company’s TotalMix FX, a software mixer available for Windows, Mac OS X, and iOS. When using the device with an iPad, an external power adapter must be used, as the iPad alone is unable to power the interface. The mixer software allows you to use the interface in a wide variety of situations, from the simple mixing of signals to more complicated routing configurations. The unit’s FPGA-based DSP mixer adds a flexible 3-band parametric equalizer on all inputs and outputs. Delay and reverb are also on hand. Achieving sample rates and resolutions of up to 192 kHz / 24-bit, the interface offers a professional recording solution in a compact form factor. The Babyface Pro FS comes loaded with RME’s TotalMix FX engine. This dual-DSP system uses one DSP chip for monitor mixing, leaving the other free for latency-free effects and processing. The routing side of TotalMix FX gives you a fully flexible 288-channel mixer with 46-bit internal resolution. Each of the Babyface Pro FS’s channels features a 3-band EQ, low-cut filter, reverb, and echo. That means you can track with the effects and processing you need, without ever having to worry about latency or your computer’s processing power.

On top of its updated SteadyClock FS circuit, the Babyface Pro FS includes a bevy of other improvements over its predecessor. Its microphone preamps boast an improved signal-to-noise ratio, from 112.2dB to 113.7dB, while the line/instrument inputs went from 114dB to 116.3dB. The line inputs’ THD was improved by 8dB. The Babyface Pro FS employs the same high-quality output op-amps as the ADI-2 Pro. Its 3.5mm headphones output power was increased from 70mW to 90mW, and the THD of both headphones outputs has been improved by up to 10dB. Plus, the 3.5mm output’s impedance was lowered from 2 ohms to 0.1 ohms. A +19/+4dBu switch reduces the interface’s output level, improving its signal-to-noise ratio for sensitive active monitors, avoiding overloads and distortion, and enabling you to keep TotalMix FX’s faders near 0dB instead of at high attenuations. You also get six samples less latency on the A/D side. And all of these improvements were achieved without raising the audio interface’s power consumption!

Boasting the same SteadyClock FS circuit as RME’s reference-quality ADI-2 Pro AD/DA converter, the Babyface Pro FS takes self-jitter to new lows, eclipsing its predecessor’s already impressive performance with an upgraded analog PLL circuit and referencing both Direct Digital Synthesis and PLL to a low-phase-noise quartz crystal. In fact, the Babyface Pro FS’s self-jitter reaches levels that are usually only available in master quartz clock mode, even while running in PLL mode. Thanks to this updated circuit, the Babyface Pro FS reaches jitter specs as low as a femtosecond. Just to put it in perspective, that’s 1/1,000,000,000,000,000 of a second!

The sheer power and flexibility of the Babyface Pro FS are pretty remarkable when you lay your eyes on it. Its low-profile aluminum casing has a great clean look but still offers deep control over levels, sub-mixes, and gain structures. There are two reference-quality digitally controlled mic preamps, two balanced line outputs, line/instrument inputs, ADAT/SPDIF I/O, a MIDI port, and two headphone outputs. You also get onboard metering with peak and RMS calculation. Best of all, the Babyface Pro FS achieves all of this while staying very straightforward and looking great on your desk. For the main I/O RME have designed a XLR socket, which integrates seamlessly into the housing and saves space.Two digitally controlled preamps provide individually switchable 48V phantom power. These circuits feature a gain range of 76 dB, adjustable in steps of 1 dB, including a relay-driven PAD, resulting in exceptional EIN (Equivalent Input Noise) performance as well as line overload protection, and enough gain for even the lowest level microphones.

Babyface Pro’s incredibly efficient design almost never requires an external power supply – it’s perfectly stable on USB 3 bus power, and also most USB 2 ports, with no degradation in any technical specification. This makes it perfect for mobile recording, even with a pair of your favourite condenser microphones.

The comprehensive feature set continues with an optical TOSLINK I/O; use as either an ADAT port with SMUX support or SPDIF for sessions up to 192 kHz. In combination with an external ADAT converter, the Babyface Pro fully supports 12 analog inputs as well as 12 outputs, making it ideal for both live and studio multi-track applications. You can plug any instrument, line or high impedance, into Babyface Pro’s jack inputs 3 & 4. Record your guitar on the go, with no additional hardware required.

MIDI I/O via an included breakout cable completes the package.
